I know what you mean. I was fortunate enough to have an English teacher who taught us some Latin and Greek roots.

Lucky... I don't remember learning anything nearly as fascinating from my teachers. I think the extent of my Latin exposure in high school would be the suffixes and prefixes in the back of a friend's biology textbook.
